Electrical and sanitizing the Hot Tub

Hooked up electrical to the tub. Had to get a sub panel put next to my main breaker box and had installed a separate disconnect outside. This tub requires a 60 amp breaker.

Filled tub and fixed small leaks here and there.

Any hot tub or even jetted tub in your home collect bio-mass from using the tub. bio-mass is basically that yucky stuff you have on your body like sweat and oils. This accumulates in the piping of the tub. It stays there clinging and is gross.
I purchased a product called (Ahh-Some hot tub cleaner) that makes the biomass solvent and come out of the pipes and sit on top of the bubbles so you can skim off. This Stuff is great and after it was done working I drained the tub and should now be clean for use.

Yukk look at that bio-mass coming to the top of the foam.

Next post should be how I have the tub running without chlorine. Making it nicer on your skin.

Fixing the spas plumbing

Took out the damaged pieces and ordered the replacement part from The Spa Works out of California. Very nice people and helped me along the process.

New parts assembled and started installing. Make sure you use a heat gun to get the old rubber tubing flexible enough to fit on the hose barbs.

all new manifolds installed and ready to flip back and test for any leaks.

Repaired some jets that were dry rotted.

Installed new H.E.E.T system on the unit.

Filled the tub and checked for leaks.

Next Blog will deal with electric and insulating of the tub.

Moving the Hot Tub and determining were the leak is.

Now that the concrete pad is poured for the tub I decided that the outdoor kitchen would fit in that space better. So I moved it there. I then tried to move the tub like the Egyptians but lacked the time or man power. So I asked the nice people at M and D Equipment for one of there Sky Trak Machines. (Really large construction site forklift that telescopes out the boom quite a ways.)

I know pretty cool machine. Now don't worry I used to drive one of these for a living in a past life as a construction worker. this unit allowed me to pickup the very heavy tub and boom out to my back patio without driving on the grass. Barely have any but would like to keep what I have.
After positioning the tub I had to take off the sides and hand dig out the insulation foam to access the piping. Not fun and filled up about 8 large trash cans of foam.

I then found the problem. The previous owner had drained the tub for winter but did not put antifreeze in the lines so the bottom main lines had frozen and cracked the main PVC lines. Darn This meant I had to flip the tub on its side. Remember it weighs about 1200#dry. This took me my neighbor and Brenda(She was not very happy with helping)

Pouring the pad for the Spa

Now that I have the hot tub I need to make a place for it. Next the house in the back yard is a nice place to place the spa. After talking to the concrete company they recommended that I have at least 5" of concrete. I Decided to have 6-7" with a base of 6-7" of gravel.
Vincent and I proceeded to hand dig a 9' x 9' square 12-14" deep. No problem took us about an hour and good news I had plenty of dirt for other projects.

Now that the hole was dug it is time for the fill of gravel. I borrowed a gas powered compactor and packed it down.

Still Supervising while Vincent measures the depth.
Vincent ready for the concrete truck to arrive mud boots and all.
Look at the nice pad Vincent poured he thought it was totally cool.

Pad all poured and ready for the Tub.
Next I will level and landscape around the pad.
